JOSEPDAM 2025 PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS: DRIVING SAFETY AND OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY ACROSS OUR PORT TERMINAL
The year 2025 marked a period of strong performance and measurable progress across all departments of Josepdam Port Service Nigeria Limited. Through deliberate strategy, investment in infrastructure, and a commitment to excellence, our port terminal recorded significant achievements in safety, operations, human resources capacity, governance and security.
Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
A major highlight of the year was the significant improvement in workplace safety. Workplace accidents were reduced by 43 percent through proactive monitoring, increased workforce engagement, and timely closeout of corrective actions. Reporting levels also improved by 21 percent, strengthening early hazard identification and preventive action.
Frontline engagement was reinforced through a 28 percent increase in toolbox talks, ensuring that both staff and third parties consistently adhered to safe work practices. In addition, Occupational Health and Safety meetings increased substantially, strengthening leadership oversight, accountability, and overall HSE governance.
Project Development and Equipment Upgrade
Significant investments were made to strengthen operational capacity and infrastructure. Two wet silos of 3,040 metric tons each were successfully completed, including associated piping systems, gantry, and loading bay facilities.
The port terminal also expanded its equipment fleet with the procurement of modern, high-capacity machinery. This included modern forklifts of varying capacities; a 16ton, two 9tons, 5tons, 3.5tons and 3tons forklifts. Other machinery acquired also included a 260ton crane and a 45ton reach stacker. These additions have enhanced cargo handling efficiency, improved turnaround time, and positioned the terminal for increased operational demand.
Operations Excellence
Operational performance remained strong throughout the year, driven by efficiency, coordination, and reliability. The consistent maintenance of an optimal berth draft of 13.5 meters ensured uninterrupted vessel access and sustained the confidence of shipping lines and stakeholders.
Improved berth planning, real time coordination, and effective collaboration across teams led to faster vessel turnaround times and reduced waiting periods. Vessel operations were executed seamlessly, with efficient berthing, cargo handling, and sailing processes carried out with minimal disruption.
Enhanced scheduling systems, real time monitoring, and structured reporting further improved planning accuracy and service delivery. These efforts reinforced the port terminal’s reputation as a dependable and performance driven maritime partner.
Human Resources Development
Notable strides were achieved in strengthening our terminal’s workforce capacity in 2025 through targeted recruitment, structured onboarding and talent development programmes. Training initiatives expanded significantly increasing staff participation, enhancing productivity and compliance awareness.
The terminal maintained a 100 percent compliance with statutory requirements, successfully meeting all obligations with NSITF, ITF, and PENCOM, while ensuring timely renewal of key insurance policies.
Vendor management processes were strengthened through improved vendor and service provider engagement, resulting in a more reliable service delivery, better cost control and operational efficiency. Collectively, these efforts improved workforce performance, strengthened administrative systems, and supported sustainable organisational growth.
Internal Audit and Governance
The Internal Audit function played a critical role in strengthening the Port terminal’s internal control frameworks and supported informed decision making. Key financial and operational systems were reviewed to reduce risk exposure and enhance internal controls.
Compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies improved across departments. Process reviews identified operational bottlenecks and delivered actionable recommendations that improved efficiency.
Performance tracking was enhanced through consistent monitoring and reporting of key metrics such as cargo throughput, vessel turnaround time, container traffic, and berth occupancy. This data provided valuable insight for infrastructure planning, investment decisions, and benchmarking within the maritime industry, while also supporting ongoing port modernization efforts.
Security and Risk Management
Security operations remained robust, ensuring the protection of assets, personnel, and cargo. Advanced access control measures, including biometric systems, surveillance, and trained security personnel, effectively safeguarded restricted areas and prevented unauthorized access.
Compliance with international security standards was maintained, supporting seamless port operations. Our port terminal strengthened its crisis management capability through regular training, drills, and well-established emergency response procedures, ensuring resilience and swift recovery in the event of incidents.
A proactive approach to risk management was sustained through continuous security assessments and the implementation of structured security plans.
Conclusion
The achievements recorded in 2025 reflect a strong commitment to safety, operational excellence, strategic investment, and effective governance. By continuously improving processes, strengthening infrastructure, and maintaining high standards across all functions, Josepdam port terminal is well positioned to sustain growth and deliver exceptional value to all customers and stakeholders in the years ahead.
